Pilet & Renaud is carrying out an exemplary project in the center of Geneva, aiming to generate the minimum amount of waste for maximum recycling. To meet this challenge, local building professionals partnering with the management company have taken an unprecedented approach in the canton.
The virtues of renovation
The real estate and construction sectors are major emitters of CO2: reducing the climate impact of a construction site has therefore become a necessity, especially considering that 70% of waste in Switzerland comes from construction sites. In this context, renovation stands out as the ideal solution, making the most of resources already on-site and reusing materials as much as possible. With this goal in mind, Pilet & Renaud decided to undertake a successful pilot project: aiming for zero waste in the renovation of a Geneva building located at 87 rue de Carouge.
Motivated local partners
The essential trades for this unique project were brought together to pursue an exemplary approach: masons, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and painters worked together to adopt new practices to reduce their waste as much as possible. Here are a few examples: the oil tank was repurposed as a rainwater recovery tank, now supplying the apartments’ sanitary facilities; the painter used no polluting solvents to clean his brushes; the parquet floor specialist restored the existing flooring as much as possible through sanding and varnishing; ... there are many examples, as all trades participated in this sustainable renovation.
An inspiring project
This innovative approach pushes the boundaries of responsible construction by minimizing its climate and environmental footprint. The ambitious goal set for local partners was achieved thanks to the unwavering commitment of professionals who changed their usual practices. This real-life experience is now paving the way for new professional practices that meet environmental standards that are more necessary than ever.
The commitment of a responsible management company
Pilet & Renaud and its partners provide proof that the real estate sector is constantly innovating to meet the needs of its time. The Carouge 87 building now stands as the signature of a committed, responsible management company. This project is nothing less than a new way to drastically reduce our environmental impact: it has proven that with optimal site management, dedicated craftsmen, and materials sourced locally, it is entirely possible—even in the construction sector—to reduce our ecological footprint.
