Rue du Vuache 5: Preserving History, Building the Future
The building at 5, Rue du Vuache in Geneva is entering a new phase in its transformation, illustrating the commitment to combining heritage preservation with sustainable innovation. For the past two months, extensive work has been underway to modernize the building’s interior and enhance residents’ comfort.
At the heart of this renovation is the installation of new ventilation shafts in the 27 apartments. The work began on the 7th floor and is gradually moving down to the ground floor, shaft by shaft. This technical phasing allows for perfectly aligned installation throughout the entire height of the building.
To minimize disruption for our tenants, we have organized the construction work according to their availability.
On the roof, the shaft outlets are already ready to be connected to an extractor, which will complete the improvement of the ventilation system.
The project’s energy dimension is reinforced by the installation of solar panels, which further increase the building’s energy autonomy. After the commissioning of 12 solar panels, 12 additional photovoltaic modules will soon be installed on the roof, further strengthening the building’s energy independence.
The project will conclude with the installation of a new boiler room in the basement.
The goal is ambitious: to halve the building’s energy consumption and obtain the High Energy Performance (HPE) label, a demanding standard that guarantees reduced energy use. This project is all the more complex as it involves a building listed with the Monuments and Sites Service. We therefore had to comply with strict specifications and demonstrate innovation and creativity to successfully complete this renovation, thus paving the way for future energy renovations of protected buildings in our canton.
Final delivery is scheduled for September 2025, when the results of this transformation will be unveiled.
